Florida Undergraduates Join Bar‑Ilan University for Summer Science Research Program

Ramat Gan, Israel — Florida students Zohar Ben Simon of Ponte Vedra Beach and Olivia Kahane of Hollywood are participating in the Bar‑Ilan University–Yeshiva University Summer Science Research Internship Program, a seven‑week initiative that brings undergraduates from North America and the United Kingdom to Israel for advanced scientific study.

The program, now in its 16th year, has hosted nearly 500 students since its inception. This summer, 24 undergraduates are conducting research alongside Bar‑Ilan faculty in fields such as computer science, economics, biology, and chemistry.

Ben Simon, a computer science and economics major entering her third year at Yeshiva University, and Kahane, also pursuing science studies, are among the select group chosen for the internship. The program emphasizes hands‑on laboratory experience, mentorship from leading Israeli scientists, and exposure to Israel’s vibrant academic environment.

Organizers highlight that the initiative strengthens ties between Jewish students abroad and Israel’s academic institutions, while fostering collaboration in cutting‑edge research. Alumni of the program have gone on to pursue graduate studies and careers in science, technology, and medicine.

The internship also includes cultural programming, giving participants opportunities to explore Israel’s history, society, and innovation ecosystem.
