Florida Synagogue Vandalized After Sharing Anti‑Netanyahu Video

Sarasota — A Florida synagogue was vandalized shortly after its social media account shared a video featuring New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, known for his outspoken criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The incident has sparked concern among Jewish leaders about rising antisemitic acts and the politicization of online discourse surrounding Israel.

According to Jewish Insider, the synagogue’s Facebook page had posted Mamdani’s remarks condemning Netanyahu’s policies in Gaza. Within hours, the building’s exterior was defaced with graffiti and a brick was thrown through a window — an act police are investigating as a possible hate crime.

Local Jewish organizations condemned the vandalism, emphasizing that disagreement over Israeli politics should never lead to violence or intimidation. The Jewish Federation of Sarasota‑Manatee released a statement reaffirming its commitment to community safety and dialogue, while urging authorities to treat the incident with the seriousness it deserves.

Mamdani, a progressive Democrat representing Queens, has previously faced criticism for his anti‑Zionist positions. His video, which circulated widely online, accused Netanyahu of “war crimes” and called for U.S. disengagement from Israeli military support — rhetoric that many Jewish leaders say fuels hostility toward Jewish institutions.

Law enforcement continues to review surveillance footage and social media activity linked to the attack. The synagogue has since increased security measures and received support from neighboring congregations and interfaith partners.
