Rick Scott Says Israel Is a Model for “America First” Alliances

Florida Sen. Rick Scott has described the United States’ partnership with Israel as a model for “America First” alliances, arguing that cooperation between the two countries strengthens national security, supports economic growth and encourages technological innovation.

Scott made the remarks following a visit to Israel, where he met with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and American and Israeli military personnel to discuss bilateral cooperation.

The Republican senator said the relationship demonstrates how international partnerships can serve American interests while helping both countries address shared security challenges.

Scott Emphasizes Shared Security Interests

In a statement following his meetings, Scott stressed the importance of distinguishing between allies and adversaries in the Middle East.

He criticized Iran and Qatar and pointed to Hamas and Hezbollah as threats to American and Israeli security. He argued that the United States should remain firmly committed to Israel as a strategic partner.

Scott also highlighted areas where the two countries cooperate, including defense technology, healthcare, medicine production and business development.

According to the senator, these partnerships can strengthen both nations while generating economic opportunities and supporting job creation.

Border Security and Military Cooperation

During the visit, Scott met with American and Israeli military personnel to discuss joint initiatives, including projects related to securing the U.S. southern border.

The meetings provided an opportunity to examine how Israel’s security experience and technological capabilities could contribute to cooperation on shared challenges.

Scott has consistently emphasized border security as a priority and has argued that partnerships with close allies can help the United States improve its national defense capabilities.

Visit Included Israel’s Northern Border

Scott also traveled to the Golan Heights and Israel’s Northern Command, where American and Israeli military officials briefed him on operations in southern Lebanon.

During the visit, he met with Dolan Abu Saleh, mayor of Majdal Shams, and Druze families who lost children in a Hezbollah attack on a soccer field in July 2024. The attack killed 12 children and teenagers.

The meetings offered an opportunity to hear from families affected by the violence and discuss the continuing security challenges facing communities in northern Israel.

Seventh Visit to Israel

The trip marked Scott’s seventh visit to Israel since he was elected governor of Florida in 2010. His itinerary also included stops in Cyprus and Greece.

Scott’s visit underscored his continued support for close U.S.-Israel relations, particularly in defense, economic cooperation and regional security.

He maintains that the partnership provides benefits for both countries and represents the type of international alliance consistent with the “America First” approach he supports.
