Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz has won reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives, defeating Republican challenger Scott Singer in Florida’s newly redrawn 25th Congressional District.
The Associated Press declared Moskowitz the winner on November 3, at 8:07 p.m. Eastern time, securing a third term for the South Florida congressman.
Singer, a former three-term mayor of Boca Raton and supporter of President Donald Trump, had campaigned on economic issues, national defense, lower taxes, and other conservative priorities.
A Closely Watched Race After Redistricting
The election drew considerable attention after Florida Republicans redrew the state’s congressional map earlier this year, creating a more Republican-friendly version of District 25.
Despite the changes, Moskowitz managed to hold onto his seat, overcoming a competitive challenge in a district that stretches along Florida’s southeastern coast, from the Delray Beach area in Palm Beach County to Miami Beach in Miami-Dade County.
The race was among the closely watched congressional contests in South Florida, with both parties investing heavily in an effort to win the district.
According to reported election results, Moskowitz received approximately 51.5% of the vote, compared with 46.4% for Singer.
A Jewish Democrat and Supporter of Israel
Moskowitz, who is Jewish, has described himself as one of the most pro-Israel Jewish Democrats in Congress. He has also made combating antisemitism and political extremism an important part of his public profile.
Following his victory, Moskowitz emphasized his commitment to representing the district and confronting hatred.
He said he would continue fighting antisemitism and hate, whether it comes from the far right or the far left.
The congressman has been an outspoken supporter of Israel, although some of his positions on congressional matters involving Israel and other lawmakers have also drawn criticism from members of the Jewish community.
Singer’s Campaign and the Road Ahead
Singer, who previously served three terms as Boca Raton’s mayor, received Trump’s endorsement and presented himself as an ally of the president.
His campaign focused on economic growth, lower taxes, border security, law enforcement, and a strong national defense. He also expressed support for Israel during the campaign.
Moskowitz’s victory means he will continue representing South Florida in Washington, beginning his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The result also demonstrated that the district’s voters chose to retain their Democratic incumbent despite the changes made to its boundaries ahead of the election.
