Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando has received a $53,000 grant from the S’firot Foundation to help sustain its Holocaust Survivor Assistance Program (HSAP), which provides essential support to Holocaust Survivors living throughout Central Florida.
The grant comes at an important time for the program following the recent loss of state funding. With government support no longer available, JFS Orlando is relying increasingly on philanthropic contributions and community support to continue providing services to local Holocaust Survivors.
Through HSAP, JFS Orlando provides individualized case management through a qualified social worker who works directly with Survivors to identify their needs and coordinate assistance. Services can include home health care, food assistance, transportation, wellness visits and other support, all provided at no cost to participants.
S’firot Foundation Executive Director Wayne Green said the organization believes strongly in the importance of the program and in ensuring that Holocaust Survivors can live with dignity, comfort and compassionate care.
JFS Orlando President Philip Flynn III expressed gratitude for the foundation’s support, saying the funding will help the organization maintain personalized assistance and the trusted relationships that allow staff to understand and respond to each Survivor’s individual needs.
The S’firot Foundation focuses its philanthropy on improving the wellness and quality of life of older Jewish adults across Central Florida. Its mission is rooted in Jewish values and emphasizes dignity, belonging and meaningful community support for older adults.
JFS Orlando established its Holocaust Survivor Assistance Program in July 2023 to help ensure the well-being of Holocaust Survivors in the Central Florida community. The organization continues to seek additional financial support to maintain and strengthen the program following the loss of state funding.
Community members interested in supporting the Holocaust Survivor Assistance Program can contribute through JFS Orlando as the organization works to ensure that local Survivors continue receiving the care and assistance they need.
