Florida House to Restore Funding for Tri‑Rail System

Florida House to Restore Funding for Tri‑Rail System

Florida House Speaker Daniel Pérez confirmed that the chamber will restore state funding for the Tri‑Rail commuter rail system, reversing cuts made in the previous year. The move is intended to secure the system’s operations beyond July 2027, when service would otherwise be at risk due to lack of capital.

However, Pérez cautioned that the plan’s future depends on whether the Florida Senate agrees to include the funds in the final budget. “I don’t know if the Senate will want to match this. So the real question will be for the senators, and I recommend that everyone call them,” Pérez said during a session, according to the Sun Sentinel.

The restoration of Tri‑Rail funding underscores the ongoing debate between the House and Senate over transportation priorities, with commuters and local officials closely watching whether the system will receive the financial support needed to continue serving South Florida.
