AJC Urges Americans to Back Jewish American Security Act Amid Rising Antisemitism

Dear Moishe

No one should have to think twice about walking into a synagogue, sending their child to school, or expressing their identity openly.

Yet for many Jewish Americans today, that is the reality.

And that is why your voice matters right now. Just yesterday, the bipartisan Jewish American Security Act was introduced. This bill, informed by American Jewish Committee’s advocacy, is a vital step toward meeting this moment with the action it demands. Led by Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and James Lankford (R-OK), the bill addresses antisemitism across society—in schools, in places of worship and community spaces, and online—helping to ensure Jewish Americans can live openly and proudly, without fear.

Join AJC in urging your Senators to support the Jewish American Security Act and calling on elected leaders at the local, state, and federal levels to take concrete steps to confront the growing threat of violent antisemitism.

This critical legislation will:

  • Bolster protections for Jewish students by establishing a dedicated antisemitism coordinator within the Department of Education and ensuring students know their rights and schools their responsibilities under Title VI
  • Require federally funded K‑12 schools and colleges to address antisemitism and other forms of discrimination
  • Expand and reform the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, including a significant increase in funding and broadening allowable uses to support a wider range of security needs
  • Strengthen federal monitoring of antisemitic extremism
  • Increase transparency and accountability for online platforms through required reporting of hate

As AJC CEO Ted Deutch said, “We are at an inflection point. Surging antisemitism is not just a threat to the Jewish community; it is a crisis for our democracy and the values we cherish as Americans—pluralism, religious freedom, and the promise of equal protection.”

The data from AJC’s State of Antisemitism in America 2025 Report tells a stark story. Nine in 10 (91%) American Jews say they feel less safe as a Jewish person in the U.S. as a result of attacks on American Jews last year—including the arson attack on Jewish Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s home, the firebombing of Jews in Boulder, Colorado, and the murders of Israeli Embassy staff members Sarah Milgrim z”l and Yaron Lischinsky z”l. More than half (55%) of American Jews say they changed their behavior in the past year out of fear of antisemitism. And 28% of American Jews say that at least one Jewish institution they are affiliated with has been a target of antisemitic incidents in the last five years.

Urge your elected leaders to take action today.

As the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, AJC will not waver in our efforts to advance policies like the Jewish American Security Act to ensure that Jewish communities everywhere are safe and thriving. Thank you for taking action when it matters most.

Sincerely,

Julie Rayman
AJC Senior Vice President of Policy and Political Affairs
