The Republican primary for Florida’s governorship has intensified as Paul Renner launched a sharp advertising offensive in the Tampa Bay area against his rival, Congressman Byron Donalds, who enjoys the backing of former President Donald Trump.
Renner’s campaign accuses Donalds of neglecting his duties in Washington, pointing to 158 missed congressional sessions since 2020. The ads also highlight a reported 600% increase in Donalds’ net worth during his four years in office, framing it as evidence of misplaced priorities.
Despite the aggressive messaging, recent polling shows a wide gap between the two contenders. Donalds currently holds 54% of voter support, while Renner lags far behind with just 2%, underscoring the uphill battle Renner faces in the Republican primary.
The attacks mark a new phase in the contest, signaling Renner’s attempt to weaken Donalds’ momentum as the race for the Florida governorship moves closer to the decisive stages.
