Customers of Miami-Dade County’s curbside recycling program: You may have noticed enforcement officers from the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) looking inside blue recycling carts in your neighborhood. This is part of an effort to reduce contamination in the recycling stream, prompted by an ordinance passed by the Board of County Commissioners earlier this year. In the event a DSWM enforcement officer finds incorrect materials in a blue recycling cart, they will currently only post a courtesy notice (the yellow sticker you may have seen) advising that the cart contains incorrect materials and will not be collected until the materials are removed. They are not issuing citations or fines. Effective June 1, 2024, residents with incorrect items in their recycling carts will continue to receive courtesy notices. However, after three such occurrences, on the fourth occurrence, residents will be subject to a fee to have the incorrect items removed. For more information on what can, and cannot be recycled in the County’s curbside recycling program, please visit https://www.miamidade.gov/recycling, call 311, or contact DSWM at dswm@miamidade.gov. #RecycleRight
