Man arrested for attacking Chabad Jewish Center of Cape Coral

An arrest has been made in connection to attacking a Jewish place of worship in Cape Coral in March 2023 while worshipers were still inside.

The Cape Coral Police Department arrested 51-year-old Maron Mark Raymond on Thursday evening for the attack made on March 11 at the Chabad Jewish Center of Cape Coral.

“This was a very challenging case because, unlike other cases, the video evidence that we have was not supreme and it really required a lot of boots on the ground. And through that, we developed persons of interest, ran down leads of many many vehicles that might meet the description, and served numerous search warrants,” said Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore during a news conference.

Raymond used bricks to try and bust in the front door just after their Saturday services ended.

Additionally, a decorative painting of a menorah in the parking lot was knocked over.

Raymond was unable to break through the impact-resistant glass, so he turned his attention to the Rabbi’s car sitting in the parking lot. Once again, bricks were used to smash the front windshield and passenger side door.

Police said they’ve kept details of the investigation close to their vests for the last month. They didn’t want any leak of information hurting the case.

“This team behind me, it was their night and day, 24/7, and it was culminated with excellent police work yesterday,” added Sizemore.

“Any type of hate crime in our community will not be tolerated. They will be investigated vigorously, and we will make sure that if these types of crimes do occur we will find who that individual or individuals are and we will make sure we bring them to Justice,” said Cape Coral Mayor John Gunter.
