The mother of current Mayor Daniella Levine Cava- Luis May Jaffin Levin- passed
away peacefully in the evening of December 29th, 2024, at the age of 90. Mayor
Daniella credits her Mom in an obituary she wrote and posted onto Facebook that it was
her mother that taught her “compassion, peace-making, and reverence”, and that her
father taught her “irreverence and risk-taking”. A beautiful combination for a Jewish
leader.
Mayor Daniella Levine Cava was first elected as mayor in 2020 of Miami Dade, making
her the first woman and first Jewish person to be elected into this position. Thanks to
her parent’s teaching, Mayor Daniella has held a membership with the National Council
of Jewish Women (NCJW) for decades and shows genuine care for the community. The
love Luise Jaffin had for her daughter shines through in the work her daughter continues
to do and she will be missed.
