On the afternoon of October 7th Isaak Chaim PourDavid, a professional roofer, fell off of a roof, which resulted in multiple injuries. After Haatzalah was called and administered aid, he was quickly rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center. Once Isaak Chaim was checked in and was assessed by the doctors had very little hope that this patient in critical condition would live. That is where the Temple Moses community stepped in.
One of the Haatzalah paramedics knew the Rabbi of Temple Moses – Rabbi Daniel Hadar – the Rabbi of the synagogue that Issak Chaim attends. At 8:30 p.m, Rabbi Hadar had the word spread, and a tehillim chain (link below) was started, extra mitzvot were taken on, a meal train was created, members of the community volunteered to take care of his five children, and a chesed fund was created (link below). By 12:30 a.m community members congregated in the Kal Chica (small sanctuary) to daven and say selichot.
Isaak Chaim stabilized by Yom Kippur. On this day, the entire community came together to share stories how Isaak Chaim built the public Miami Beach menorah, how he shared his backyard during COVID lockdown to put up a tent for outdoor davening, and how he was a consistent host for guests on Shabbats. Together the entire community prayed for his recovery.
On Sunday November 10th, the community came together to have a Rainbow Challah
Bake to give women and children the opportunity to perform a mitzvah in his honor.
Sadly Isaak Chaim passed away on Monday November 11th at the age of 46. He leaves
behind a legacy of his strong widow Tamar and his five children, but also of a strong
community he made stronger, by building it up with hard work and warth.
