SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. — Residents are pushing back against what they say are hateful, anti-Semitic messages distributed in a Satellite Beach neighborhood near a synagogue.
The flyers appeared Sunday morning in a Satellite Beach subdivision.
“It is deeply sad and disturbing when hate is left in your driveway in the middle of the night,” visitor Stacey Patel said.
Patel and her husband, both Democratic Party promoters, were staying in the neighborhood.
The flyers were left in driveways, wrapped in plastic bags and weighted with gravel. The messages say Antifa – an anti-fascist group – is a Jewish communist militia.
They connect Jewish organizations with Black Lives Matter, but do not specifically mention the neighborhood or any local people.
They were found at houses covering several blocks. A Jewish community center and synagogue sits on the corner.
“We felt frightened for their security. It’s really hateful,” one resident told WESH 2 News.
Police want to know who distributed the material, but said any prosecution, even for littering or trespassing, would be complicated.
Authorities said the sentiments expressed are likely protected by the First Amendment.
